We watch you gather with your communities at church, at school, and even at the mall, to share the special spirit of the season, brightening those long winter days.
I know that this is becoming one of my permanent Christmas traditions. I have so enjoyed the evenings when I have read a story or two before going to sleep. I have also slept better having such nice stories rolling around in my mind too. With stories that just about covers the time for me from Halloween til Christmas to help me get and stay in the spirit! Nov 26, Ashley rated it it was amazing Shelves: book-challenge , holiday. A wonderful book. A great holiday read and a great way to remind readers what Christmas is really about.

I love Chicken Soup books at the gym, and in the beginning, I found the stories in here to be great motivation for my workout, exercise longer to read a few more stories. Unfortunately, I think I acquired, and thus started, the book too late, as once the Christmas season ended, my interest in the stories waned.
Perhaps I was just Christmas-ed out, or perhaps the stories in the early part of the book were just better, I don't know.

Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year, although the loss of close loved ones in brought the end to many of our family traditions and our new traditions feel like they will just be temporary bridges as more changes occur over the next few years, as much of my family talks about moving from snowy, cold PA to warmer climates.
So perhaps that was part of what weighed on me at the end, that a lot of those stories talk about long-standing traditions. That said, it's not a bad book and for people like me who deep down love Christmas, it is very enjoyable. I would have probably given it 5 stars had I read it throughout the month of December rather than the end of December and beginning of January. Dec 28, Kevin Johnson rated it liked it.
For many years in Seattle my family used to attend this Christmas theater play called "Voices of Christmas" which in order to be in the actors had to have their own personal Christmas story to tell as part of the variety show. The comedy and music were great, but the stories changed with the actors and for me were always the part I looked forward to the most. The show has long stopped being aired in Seattle, so this year I picked up this book looking for some of those kinds of stories.
It's this For many years in Seattle my family used to attend this Christmas theater play called "Voices of Christmas" which in order to be in the actors had to have their own personal Christmas story to tell as part of the variety show. It's this desire that made me pick up this book.
In that regard at times it met that desire. This book has some of them like the Jewish woman who is adopted by a catholic woman during Christmas during WWII that basically saved her life. Or the kids giving up all their holiday presents to help pay for their dogs surgery. But this is a collection of short stories that spent too much time chasing the goal of stories and that makes the stories very a great amount in writing quality, and depth. I often found myself drudging through so many stories to get to another gem.
Jan 14, Joseph rated it it was ok. With an anthology such as this, the content appears focused more on quantity than quality. Thus, the short stories included vary from the saccharine-sweet and emotionally manipulative to a few well-composed gems. Also, as there are repetitive and trite themes among the stories, one suspects that the composition of the book involved possibly culling material from writing assignments on a specific Christmas theme.
As such, even for one seeking Christmas magic, it is hard not to roll one's eyes as With an anthology such as this, the content appears focused more on quantity than quality. As such, even for one seeking Christmas magic, it is hard not to roll one's eyes as another manufactured "I was a Grinch, then discovered the magic of Christmas through a poignant event or adorable child in my life" story proceeds one after another. The suspiciously familiar set of stories involves a bit too much humblebragging, with point of views including a series of privileged do-gooders acknowledging the less fortunate or gaining perspective on a life for which they should possess more gratitude.
Finally, the short format each story is only a few pages may also be problematic as the moral of each story requires a more tropes and less genuine poignancy. Dec 27, Denise rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Everyone.
